Goboko Freedom in the sky
Reporter/photographer Harriet Quimby in her purple satin flightsuit! She talked her paper into paying for her flying lessons. Here she's propping a 3-cylinder 25hp Anzani radial engine sporting an innovative Chauvière propeller, all hanging on a Blériot XI. She became the first American woman pilot in 1911 and the first woman to fly across the English Channel in 1912—a first sadly obscured in history because she did it the day after the Titanic sank.
